No sound in redhat 9 using soundblaster live! 5.1

For some reason i'm not getting any sound with my soundblaster live! card. Kde recognizes the card and i've run aumix several times to no avail. Do I need to run alsamixer to get my sound working? I've downloaded alasamixer but I don't know how to use it.

if you have alsa installed, i would think that you also have alsamixer installed. Try typing alsamixer from a terminal. If that doesn't work, install it and try to get it working. Once you get it working, just make sure that your sound isn't muted (m to unmute i think). Also, if you use digital sound like i do, you'll have to unmute the last column, too.
