No sound in gentoo, sound in knoppix

Alright. At first when I intalled gentoo a few days ago I thought my speakers were messed up because they have been in the past. I have gone through these days with no sound. I booted up the newest knoppix and the sound scared me when I heard it.

when i type lspci:

I see:

Intel Corperation: 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC '97 Audio COntroller (rev 02)

i typed /etc/init.d/alsasound restart, it worked. and still no sound!

Everytime i reboot my comp, my alsamixer mutes itself, is this normal?

you have to save your alsa settings.. so yes it is normal

you can save them with

alsactl store

What is the output of lsmod | grep snd

We should be able to get this fixed
