Lightbulb

I just went through the whole Dell sound issue and finally got the sound working yesterday. Here is what I ended up doing:

Go to Opensound and download the OSS drivers for your sysem. It's a trial with the option to buy a license for 10$. It seems that the SB Live! card Dell installs doesn't work with drivers made for "real" SB cards. Long story short, I now have sound, and it was worth the price.

not trying to flame here at all, but, just a tip from 1 newb to another, double posting is a no no. it makes it harder to find the proper thread and answer the question.i'd suggest bumping your original thread after say 24hrs w/ no responses.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

i'll google around for the answer as well, and post back if i find an answer.
good luck.
