no sound after recording something

hi everyone,

I'm a very beginer in linux world and programming, i'm interesting in audio.

I try to record something throw grecord application or rec(1) but when i stop the recording and ask for playback I don't heard nothing.

I look on mixer control and the microphone is set as record input, it isn't mute and its volume is max.

I have the same result if I log as me or as root.

I do the same experiment over 4 different machine with RedHat 7.2 and on all I can not listen nothing.

I suppose, but I'm not sure because I'm very newer, that there is something of wrong in configuration of all 4 system.

Somebody Know what's the problem or where can I find more information or people who work more with audio?

Thanks
