No Sound!!!

I just started using linux. I installed SUSE 10.1 on my computer. I have a HP desktop with an integrated "Realtek ALC 880 chipset" sound card. Suse doesn't play sound!!! the only sound i can hear is the one that comes from the small speaker in the cabinet(while testing the system bell, etc.). NO SOUND FROM MY 2.1 SPEAKERS! PLEASE HELP!

Run "alsaconf" to detect your sound card, if it's not detected. Then run alsamixer to set up the volumes. Or maybe you just need to set up the volumes as the default is mute I think. If you didn't install Alsa then check this: http://www.alsa-project.org/

Did you receive any errors? If so, want were the errors?

it just said no sound device can be detected.

however, i fixed the problem by going to realtek.com.tw and download their new drivers.

thanks

Then YAST control center must help you. Try configuring the sound card from the hardware options in YAST!
