no mp3 metadata when copying files

This is probably a simple one, but it is driving me nuts.

Where is the metadata about mp3 files when you move or save files?

When the system asks. do you want to skip or replace an existing file it doesn't give me any information. In 8.04 the system would give me file size, bit rate and duration information. so that I could compare the 2 files. Now I get nothing not even file size.

I tried it with nautilus krusader dolphin and thurun and I get the same response The information is listed under properties, but it does not display during the skip or replay operation.

what am i missing

It could be something in kde which is not likily since the same problem occurs in gnome.

It must be either a common file that is no longer being installed or something in the kernal.

I need to know if this is my problem or is it universal can anyone else see this information?

If you right-click on the file in a filemanager then you should see a menu. Click on "Properties" and you should see a "Meta Info" tab that contains the information you're looking for.

You are right, that does work. In fact that is what I have been doing since I upgraded to 9.04 because that's all I can do.

However, if you look at something like Krusader you will see that the form is already in place to accept and display this information. Someone meant for that information to be there. I am trying to figure out why it is not. This is not a simple bug missed by some programer who was in a hurry. The fact that none of the main file browsers (nautilus dolphin konquourer krusader and so forth don't display it, and that the problem does not go away when you switch desktops tell me that the problem, and hence the solution, go much deeper then just finding a work around.

I need tp know if this function works for anyone else. someone just told me that for other file types you do get size and date modified, so it is working to a point. I will verify this and let you know. Windows will display this information and if windows can do it, we can.

Help me out here folks, can anyone see this data. I am quickly finding out that I am not the only inquiring mind that wants to know.

I have looked at Krusader (version 2.0.0). What form? What place? I don't see any meta information on my sound files there.

How do I get Kubuntu to fill in the missing data. This screen shot is from Kubuntu 10.04. the dialogue box was generated by Krusader but non of the file browsers will display this data. At the very least I need file creation date and size.
