no man page entries

hi,

i am using FC4. when i try to view the man page for 'cat' or some other command, it is giving the response that "NO MANUAL ENTRY FOR <command>". But i am getting the info page for the same command.

surprisingly the "whatis" command is working, which i heared earlier that it checks the man pages to give the answers.

why man command is not working?

Thanx

First, verify whether the man.gz cat file exists:
locate man1 | grep '/cat\.'

rpm -qf /usr/share/man/man1/cat.1.gz
coreutils-5.93-20

It probably does.
Check if the MANPATH variable exists:
echo $MANPATH
If it is defined then /etc/manpath.conf will be ignored. It might be defined but not properly.
echo $MANPATH
/usr/local/man:/usr/share/man:/usr/X11R6/man:/opt/gnome/share/man

You might try running as root, mandb to rebuild the man database.
