Unhappy No internet - network is up

Dear Experts,

I'm using Mandriva 2009 (Dual boot with Win XP) on LAN with SiS901 Ethernet. Our LAN uses Windows Proxy Server to access internet.

On Linux, I can send emails (by configuring to mail server) and view Windows network without any problem (but downloading is very slow from windows machines).

But can not access internet with Firefox. Connection speed is around 1-2 KB/s always and the web pages keep on loading for ever, but never comes....

Proxy settings in Linux, including FireFox, were manually configured (with static IP), same as in Windows.

IP - 192.168.5.61
Netmask - 255.255.0.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
VPN Connection - None

Network Proxy Settings
HTTP Proxy - 192.168.1.1 port 8080 (use the same proxy for all portacols)

In Network Monitoring, when click 'Connect Ethernet' it says 'Connection Failed. Check settings in control center... "

PLEASE HELP.
THANKS IN ADVANCE...

Best Regards,
Daniel

Please post the output of

/sbin/ifconfig

and

/sbin/lspci

Also, can you ping your gateway / proxy successfully from the Linux machine? Can you ping anything at all on the internet "outside" your LAN? Like google.com or cnn.com.

Is it ONLY web browsing that does not work? Can you FTP for example, or telnet outside your LAN? Or is ALL the protocols blocked? It is interesting that you say mail works (i. e. POP3 and SMTP) but HTTP (web) does not??
