Which motherboard? Which NIC?

Apfelbox 04-28-2007 06:11 PM

I think it is not a hardware problem because th computer is not so old and there also was internet running before fedora. But I think I have an Asus Motherboard (P5WD2 Premium), NIC is on board and everything runs fine until I installed fedora.

A tutorial or a "how to" would help me very much I think.

thx

Old has nothing to with it, on the contrary. If there's any sort of hardware that prodcuces issues, it's the new - because the developers have not been able yet to include the drivers. My mobo is eight months old and, nope, no internet using Fedora. I do get internet out of the box when using other, more recent distros, though.

ASUS has been using a lot of REALTEK 8111/8168 NICS lately so if you could check whether that's what you have I can tell you exactly what to do.

Surely you must hava a manual somewhere so you can look up what's on the motherboard? I just checked google but I found different types of that motherboard and they have different NICS. I really can't offer any advice without knowing more.

btw I also have no sound...

I think I will switch to Debian.

OK, not a bad choice. Beforer doing so, however, you really need to figure out what's on you mobo. Once you know, use google and check which distro will run your NIC without a problem. The thing is that even Debian may not support your card...

possible internet fix

I got my connection going on FC5 by disabling IPV6 in the browser.

To get Internet to work I had to put 'about:config' in the address bar of the browser (Firefox)and change the property of network.dns.IPV6 to true and then restart the browser.
This may be your problem; best of luck. Bye
