Well, if this is a shared computer, you can do one of fivethings:
1. negotiatie with the co owneres to add a new NIC as above
2. Contact asus tech support to get the existing drivrs working under your live cd
3. Use the USB connection to connect to the cable modem when its your turn to use the pc
4. Buy a USB to Ethernet adapter for use when it is your turn.
5. Find a different Live CD that works out of the box!

My first preference would be to call tech support or hit the website for support by the MFR.
My second preference would be to download gnu/ubunto and burn an ISO CD with drivers that work on the shared machine.
