No Hard Drive device detected during Installation
Hi,
I've been trying to get Linux installed on my Laptop unsuccessfully for the past 3 weeks. I am completely new to Linux. I have a HP Compaq 6510b Laptop which came pre-installed with Vista,I had to disable the SATA controller inorder to get XP installed. But when I try installing LINUX(REDHAT 4,UBUNTU 7), they all can't detect my hard-drive. Please, help me urgently, am pulling my hair here.....:) |
Did you re-enable SATA?

Thanks for your reply,
I did re-enable SATA, but when I do so I can't get XP to startup |
I have just setup a laptop with sata, i used nlite to make an xp install disc with sata drivers as part of the installer disc...
If you ensure that xp has the sata drivers(needs to have sp2 installed too)... HP compaq 6510 is novell suse enterprise certified, so there is no reason linux wont run on it...but if need be try using suse... |
I might try booting into XP, then install the SATA drivers, reboot, re-enable SATA, then try booting Linux again. wraithe is right though, you need SP2 to use SATA with XP.
