No GUI?

So I have just recently upgraded a version of Mandriva 2007 32 bit to Mandriva 2007 64 bit, the install went fine, however when I boot into Mandriva I am greated by full screen Konsole. Like if you were to press Ctrl*Alt*F2 while using the gui, what do I need to do in order to have the gui boot at startup?

Also if I try Ctrl*Alt*F7, I get a black screen with flashing underscore, the only thing I can do is Ctrl*Alt*Dlt and Mandriva will shutdown. Suggestions?

wierd mang. try using 'startx' and seeing if that works. i doubt it will, but it should give some nice feedback =]

Okay tried 'startx' and I get a lot of output, what really sticks out is
FATAL: Module nvidia not found.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
etc . . .

I am going to try and reinstall unless anyone has any suggestions.

I don't have any experience with mandrivia, but i know in my escapades with debian I have run across NVIDIA kernel modules in apt-get. I'd guess you need to install one.. preferably the right one?

The problem is you installed nvidia drivers in the 32 bit version, and now your xorg.conf is looking for them, but you haven't installed them in 64 bit space. Either install the 64 bit driver from NVidia (and make sure you have full kernel headers), or simply change the /etc/X11/xorg.conf from using nvidia drivers to using either nv driver or vesa.

Peace,
JimBass
