No graphics on new install of Suse 10 on IBM ThinkCentre

I just installed SLED 10 (format full hard drive) on my 'old' IBM ThinkCentre A30 (Celeron, 256M Ram, 40G hd); the install went perfectly but after final reboot I get error messages about 'no X Window' which I think means it cannot use my on-board Intel graphics adapter. All I get is a prompt as root user. I assume I need to somehow re-configure my graphics driver or get the right graphics driver. Any ideas and direction would be greatly appreciated.

Two things to do:

- first you should make certain whether you really can't boot into a GUI by typing startx at the command line

- if it doesn't work you would type sax2 instead and try to configure things yourself.
