"no elms mixer found"

I am having trouble in getting my AC97 sound on my notebook to work. I am using linux Slackware9.1 with the 2.6.6 kernel, I didn't compile alsa into the kernel and neither compile as module since I plan to install the alsadriver myself seperately. Installed alsa package 10.4 all from source, driver, lib, util, tools then run alsaconf and my soundcard is detected fine. Everything went ok untill I run alsamixer which gave me an error "no elms mixer found". I issue command "locate alsamixer" and I found it presents. I startx to find I still can't play any sound with xmms (some error about output). The sound worked fine when I was using 2.4.22 and the last version of alsa. Any solution?

You did remember to compile in sound support even thought you didn't compile any drivers?

Change the output plugin in XMMS (right-click on the XMMS window, Options=Preferences). You probably want to use the "alsa" output plugin, but you can try the OSS ones if you've enabled OSS emulation when you installed ALSA, or the sound server ones (arts or eSound) if you're using the KDE or GNOME sound servers, respectively).

Hope this helps.
