No display when installing Ubuntu

Hi,

This is my first attempt to install Linux. I'm trying to install onto a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. The installation was trouble free, but on booting the display goes blank. I can hear sounds, and when I type in my username and password, it sounds as if its loading, but still no display.

Can anyone help? I thought maybe it was something to do with the install menu about selecting resolution? I've tried reinstalling once, but hte same happened.

any ideas?

The first time you put in the installer disk, what are the extra boot options? Is there one like vga=791? Also, after you've already tried to boot up and your screen goes blank, what happens when you type control-alt-F1?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I've found the BIOS that I needed: jackdied.com/static/I6000A05.exe

I could then downgrade the BIOS, run Ubuntu, update Ubuntu and reinstall the latest BIOS.

Thanks again
