no desktop,,KDE.. help!
 

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i installed Suse linux 7.2 last night, and the installation went really well, no problems, and linux loaded fine after that..it also looked quite nice, in its KDE desktop.. and all that..

but, it was late, and i just logged out,, (couldnt fiind the "halt" system thing -like in red hat) so after it logged out, i just turned my pc off..

next day, i turn it on, put the boot floppy in (i dont like Lilo on my hd,, always seems to mess stuff up) and suse's screen pops up, and i start suse linux

then it comes up,, ARHH!! the problem starts,,:cry: KDE hasnt loaded, it just has a command driven interface,, and during the installation, i DID choose to have a GUI.. interface, (KDE)

so, any ideas anyone? :confused:

ps, i dont have the manual either,, :cry: because, i got the cd's, from a friend...

don't worry, log in as root, type:
joe /etc/rc.config (you can save your changes typing Strg-k,Strg-x. joe is a simple editor.)
here you can edit a whole lot of your configurations. set the (default) windowmaker to "kde". if the kde-system is on your disk this should work. you can set your personal desktop in /home/yourusername/.xinitrc, too. hope that helps, jens

Try the command 'startx'.i don't have suse but this is what you give in command mode to start gui in redhat.Good luck.

oh yeah, i didn't think of that. log in as user (not as root) and then 'startx'

YES!!! thanks!! startx works fine,, i also tried "startkde" it does some stuff, mainly resulting in errors, but startx is excellent,, thanks for all the help! :D :D
