No connections

Hello,

I installed Mandrake Linux 10.0 about 3 months ago and everything has been working just fine. I was running a website, ftp server, telnet server, and ssh. I woke up this morning to find that the power went out so I went ahead and started the server back up. When it came back up I have no internet connection at all. I can't access the the server from my LAN either. The server shows that I do have a connection, but when I try to go to google.com it comes back with "Could not connect to host google.com". It also will not let me connect to "localhost" and 127.0.0.1 in my webbrower either. When I tried "localhost" Konqueror comes back with:

An error occurred while loading http://localhost
Could not connect to host localhost

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

No connection..

Btw, I did install a new ethernet card and tried using a different cable to the router and still had no luck.

Thanks.

The ethernet card should not effect any local services running on the computer. If you can not connect to localhost then try 127.0.0.1. Can you ping localhost and 127.0.0.1.

Make sure ifconfig shows a lo and eth0. If not some files might of been corrupted. Make sure the required modules are being loaded and all of your process are still running.

I tried the 127.0.0.1 and it doesn't work either.

I typed: /sbin/ifconfig and it shows eth0 and lo and both look normal to me. Both show RUNNINGING and eth0 shows MULTICAST.

Thanks,

Are all of the servers running? Check the logs for errors.

I am not quite sure which servers to be looking for.

From what I can tell, httpd is running, shorewall, squid (but it is now giving me errors on reboot), sshd, telnet, and my ftp server.

I just tried to ssh to another server I have access to and here is the error message I got:

ssh: blah.com: Temporary failure in name resolution.

I looked this up on the internet and I found to check the file /etc/resolv.conf and everything looks just fine in that file.

I can however do a 'ssh localhost' and 'ssh 127.0.0.1'. When I try typing that in Konqueror is comes back with cannot connect to host. I have my linux box hooked to a router and set as the DMZ with the ports forwarded to the IP. I tried connecting to the linux box with one of the other PC's on the network and they can't find the host. I try using like 192.168.1.100 (which is the IP the linux box says is assigned to it)

Is my /etc/resolv.conf not getting read correctly? I went into Mandrake Control Center and looked at the Services and everything that needs to be running appears to. iptables shows as stopped and when I try to start it the screen freezes and nothing happens. Last night I uninstalled iptables and reinstalled it and nothing happened.

** I logged in to webmin and checked out apache and it says it's not currently running. When I went to boot it up, I get a screen saying it failed. In 'error_log' it says:

[error] Cannot allocate shared memory: (17)File exists

Hope this explain the problem a little better. Thanks for the help.
