No connection with DSL

I am unable to connect Damn Small Linux 4.2.5 to my Bthomehub router. I have tried what I have in the below text but to no avail; maybe I am going the wrong way here.
As I know little of Linux I am getting desperate so for any information I would be grateful.

Are you attempting to connect via the wireless or the wire?

If you're connecting by the wire, do you have a dhcp client installed? If you do, you can do something like:

ifconfig eth0 up 0.0.0.0
dhclient eth0 (assuming your dhcp client is named 'dhclient')

Thanks for the reply, I am trying to connect wireless, would it be simple to do it by wire? although I do prefer wireless. I am having real trouble with Linux, first I could not find a download site that worked then I could not get it on CD and now after I got that sorted out I can't connect to the internet.
