No C compiler found in $path

I am trying to install ncpfs 2.2.4 so that I can access a novell server using SUSE 9.1. When I run ./configure it says no acceptable c compiler found in $path. I did a search for cc and found a few folders but nothing that looked like it was the compiler. I downloaded GCC 3.4.3 but it was really confusing on how to install it. Anyone have any idea how I can EASILY install a C compiler? I am a total noob to Linux.

Thanks for any help.

Fixed

Forget it I found what I needed. I had the ISO CD and it looks like not everything is on there. I changed the installation path to an FTP mirror site and the options I wanted to install are now available.
