Unhappy no bootable devices--strike f1 to reboot,f2 for setup utility.

hi
my system is a dual boot of windows xp and suse 10.3 linux.
using fdisk,i removed linux,fat32,fat32 ext (LBA) partitions.
when i reboot,i get the error 'no bootable devices--strike f1 to reboot,f2 for setup utility.
ok,i tried 'fixmbr','bootcfg /rebuild' and 'fixboot c: on windows recovery console and it did not solve it.
i repaired windows and got the error 'INF file txtsetup.sif is currupt or missing, status 18 setup cannot continue.press any key to exit'.
the help page on 'fixmbr' says it is for x86 (64 bit).
my system is 32 bit i686.please help me.thanks

If you deleted all the partitions, what would your system boot to? This message is from your bios telling you there is nothing to boot to.

It might help if you post the results of fdisk -l (sounds like you'll have to use a liveCD e.g.Knoppix to use it). Perhaps your Windows partition isn't marked as active.

hi mostharmless,
there was a success using "fdisk" on live linux cd.i appreciate BUT there is a problem
when i start windows i get these:

windows did not start successfully.A hardware of software change might have caused it

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

last known good configuration

start window normally

i select "start windows normally" and it reboots i try again,it reboot

then i select the safe mode's and got some code and "press esc to cancel loading a347bus.sys

i repaired windows and no solution.i would like some more help

Well, I think when you did this:

Quote:
'fixboot c: on windows recovery console and it did not solve it.
i repaired windows and got the error 'INF file txtsetup.sif is currupt or missing, status 18 setup cannot continue.press any key to exit'.
initially, you probably did something bad to your Windows setup. If you tried repairing Windows again with your Windows boot CD and it didn't work, you might need a Windows guru...

What happened after

Quote:
then i select the safe mode's and got some code and "press esc to cancel loading a347bus.sys

i repaired windows and no solution.
Did you load the a347bus.sys driver? Did Windows reboot again?

Of course another solution, now that you have access to your Windows data again, is to backup if you haven't already and reinstall Windows.

maybe the bootloader was installed on one of those partitions if you did not choose to install on mbr

Debian
