You should be able to boot OpenSuse using the Grub2. Just stick to the menu.lst but amend it with Grub2 syntax.

Typically you need

(1) Change "title" to "menuentry" with a "{" at the end. The description in between should be enclosed by quotes.
(2) add "set" in font of "root" and add a "=" between it and the partition.
(3) increase the partition number by 1
(4) replace "kernel2 with "linux"
(5) add "{" as the last line
