Open a terminal and run alsamixer
. Unmute all the levels by toggling the "m" key. Move between the levels with the left and right arrow keys. Raise the levels with the up and down arrow keys.
Also post the output of:
lspci | grep -i audio
lsmod | grep -i snd
Here is sound problems troubleshooting guide for Ubuntu that may help.
I use Ubuntu, and not Mint. Does Mint have any type of GUI program for configuring sound? If so, have you tried using it? For example, Ubuntu has: system > preferences > sound. Does Mint have something like that?
