NIC is not working HP Compaq elite 8300 mt (Ci 5) (OS: Redhat EL 5)


Hi,
I installed Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 x86 on HP Compaq elite 8300 mt PC.
The problem is Network Card is not installed or available.
I run command "dmesg" out put is attached herewith.
In specification overview sheet. its written there (1The following features are not supported by Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop:
Intel Gigabit CT Desktop NIC
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Plus
HP Client Security
HP Blu-ray Writer playback of commercial movies
DisplayPort video interface
HP 2nd serial port adapter
Power Management features)

what is the problem
........

You're using RHEL5, which is old. Use the latest version, which may solve your problem. At the very least, you'll be in a supported configuration. And since you mentioned SLES and RHEL, have you called either Red Hat or SuSE support, since you're PAYING FOR IT??? They can help you with such problems, since both RHEL and SLES are commercial-pay-for distributions. If you're not going to pay, then you need to stop where you are and load CentOS instead.

On another note, things like movie playback and displayport aren't typically supported well by server-class distributions...because such things aren't FOUND on servers typically. Load a consumer-friendly distro like Fedora or Mint, which will probably support hardware like that right off. And have you checked HP's website for Linux drivers? There are several 8300 systems listed...
