Nic Install
 

I have a Gateway solo 5300 laptop that i just installed Red Hat 7.3 on .. Everything was great up until the point where i needed to get on the net . I have a pc card nic and follwed all the directions to install it but when i try to activate the hardware it will nt activate . Will i need new drivers lke windows or is linux completely differnt . The net card is a Xircom Credit Card Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56 :cry:

you ran netconfig and probed the card?

First I'd suggest you go to:
http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/
and check if your hardware (you NIC) is supported. It probably is.

Then I'd suggest you check what modules are loaded into your memory. You do that by running "lsmod|more" as root. Look for anything which might be your NIC.

I wouldn't be surprised if Red Hat had som kind of program where you can configure your hardware (like "harddrake" in Mandrake). If you don't find that kind of program you will probably have to recompile your kernel and then import the modules in memory.
