nForce2 Suse8.2

Due to a failure, I've had to change motherboard recently. The new board uses a nForce2 chipset providing onboard sound and networking - neither of which are working under Suse 8.2.
Yast recognises both but no joy.
I believe that the 2.4.22 Kernel offers support for nForce2 so i have downloaded a patch (not Suse specific).
Can anyone post instructions for installing the patch (including where the patch should be on the system).
Finally, would O'riellys' "Linux in a Nutshell" be a worthwhile purchase.

Thanks

Luke
