Newbs - you gotta try this!

I recently tried out Linux From Scratch. Mr. Beekman has written an EXCELLENT book. It walks you through each and every step. Explains exactly what to type. ALSO, explains what each package does, and what each program inside the package does. I have learned so much about Linux that I'm amazed. And you won't believe how much faster your PC will boot !!! It only took me about 12 hours on a PII-350 (your mileage may vary). In ONE weekend I had an LFS system up, with XF86 4.2, and Windowmaker.

If you're curious (or just want to teach yourself Linux), I can't think of a better way.

See the 4.0 book at linuxfromscratch.org

The LFS server is looking for a new home, so the mirrors are doing the serving right now.

TRY IT OUT !!

just as a added compliment to beekman, he's one of the maintainers in our LFS sub-forum under the linux-distro forum. if you have any questions about LFS that aren't covered in the book, you can always search the forum or just ask him directly. LFS is definitely the best and most complete way to learn linux.
