Newbies - B4 You Ask...

These are simple instructions to overcome your Linux woes:

1. Insert your Windows XP CD in your CD drive
2. Follow the wizard and install
3. Place your Linux distribution in nearest garbage receptacle.
4. You're done, and everything works!

LOL

If it works for you, go for it.

So then we're stupid for starting out sometime? You were a newb once. Lock yourself in a room if you can't stand people.

contrasutra 06-26-2003 11:54 PM

Well, I doubt she's writing this from outside. ;)

Oh c'mon, thats not nice. To quote Lycoris:
"Linux is for Everyone".

:D

carlywarly 06-27-2003 12:09 AM

and all because the modem manufacturer doesn't write Linux drivers.......

mhearn 06-27-2003 09:24 AM

Too bad. Try again in a few years. Until then please refrain from making unhelpful comments, it just makes the forum noisy.

artur 06-27-2003 09:29 AM

on the payroll

wonder how much microsoft paid her

fancypiper 06-27-2003 10:02 AM

Got winhardware, huh? Try throwing those bits into the garbage can. That's what I did.

Pcghost 06-27-2003 02:24 PM

God it smells like troll around here. :-)

Oh, come one! Where's the shrewd business person lurking inside you? Surely you didn't throw it/them out? Surely you sold them to someone unsuspecting for slightly more than they're worth, so that your non Winware hardware effectively becomes cheaper?

windoze? i think not. i'll take open source over a congolomerate any day. by the way cheryl, you might want to scan your system. i found your IP and sent you a few doozies ;-)

qwijibow 06-27-2003 07:55 PM

woooow, i didnt know there were people out there who search for linux forums when they dont like linux, sign up to a linux forum when they dont like linux, and then post to say they dont like linux.

i find politics boreing, maybe i should spend all my youth studying it so i can work my way up to the top,so i can become the president, so i can make a public anouncement about how i find politics boreing....oh wait,,, that might make me look a bit SAD.

yeah, it stinks like h3ll.

faheyd 06-27-2003 09:27 PM

And that's exactly what MS wants you to do, be a robot drone, and never question the licensing, installing of spyware, etc.

I think not, I own my system, not MS. I am an individual.

Let's see you install XP and do updates on a 56k dial up box.

Call me next year when you're done.

cheryl 06-27-2003 11:29 PM

Ok, in order:

2damncommon: glad you've got a sense of humour

Megos: went over your head

contrasutra:
:)

carlywarly: that's only part of the story - but you might notice that Microsoft supplies drivers for just about every hardware device on the install

mhearn: so, say 2020? lets see...
RH7.3: no sound, no modem
RH8: no sound, no modem, resolution forced to 800x600 unless conf file found and manually edited - great for noobs. Have to drag windows across the screen to read, as they don't scale for res.
RH9: wahay! sound AND monitor. Still no modem. And hang on a sec - CPU usage stays at 100%!! fantastic

artur: yes, everything's a Micro$oft Con$piracy to Open Sores zealots

fancypiper: possibly... but thats two modems i've tried - first one WAS winmodem, but tossing it to run a couple of dev tools I need and have updates is just stupid.

Pcghost: It's always a troll when flaws are pointed out ain't it?

Thymox:

:tisk:

orpheus: You'd have to be the biggest dick on this thread. Oh I'm scanning now. Not. Even if it wasn't a dynamic IP I'd still be thinking what a halfwit you are

qwijibow: It's not like or dislike. The Open Sores community is constantly on about how bad MS is and how everyone should be running Linux, but when the average user tries it, it's nearly impossible to get any of the distros working without hours of searching and fiddling, and even then there's no guarantee it's gonna work with all your hardware.

faheyd: Another clueless Linux zealot. Did a clean install last week to set up for another go at Linux (on 56K which is lucky to run at 33). SP1 is available in any newsagent on dozens of magazine CD's. Updates took maybe a couple of hours all up from live update. So how big ARE the RH9 crucial updates released within days of it's launch?

To sum up, the hype for Linux just doesn't fit the facts, and until it does, uptake is going to be minimal. Spreading Microsoft FUD isn't gonna help.

Chezza

faheyd 06-27-2003 11:45 PM

I use both Win2K and Linux. Without getting too personal with ya, since I don't want a date (I think you're a guy anyway), the reason you are such a noob is because you have no clue. If you want to continue to be clueless, go ahead and use XP. Windows promotes cluelessness (how's that for a word). You are angry at the world, because Linux isn't complying with what you think an OS should be. Well, after your whining, grow up, and see that you are frustrated, because you will have to actually think for the first time in your life, to actually read the documentation that came with your hardware. Linux doesn't DO anything, without you telling it to. Well, Tell it to install, and it will.
This is true, that windows does have a lot of drivers, but, you make it sound like THEY wrote them. They didn't. We can argue all day about which OS is better, no doubt that XP has a better install and can satisfy the mindless masses. But when you want your computer to actually do some work, Linux is the way to go.
I'm not mad at you, I would like to help, what is your problem?
Don't point the fingers at everything/everyone else, what is the problem that you have, that I can help you out with. Until that question is answered, all else is futile and mute.
Got Milk?
