Newbie, with ASUS Eee. Wifi and BT and E-mail questions

Hello, Purchased one off Ebay, looks pretty good for what we want, which is easy to carry around the world.
Know nothing about Linux, BUT am told less likely to get Virus.
Tried to find my BT Home Hub, which it did, but will not log via the Wifi. BT say don`t support Linux.
Such was my lack of intelligence, I said it was an ASUS Eee, they said it used this system.
Works when it plugs into the lead that runs off the BT HUB.
So my question is how do I go about sorting this out, and truly I have little knowledge of computers, I use Mac Book and old XP loaded Toshiba in the house as well, they both Link.
I have put correct key code in I believe.
Secondly How do I set my e-mail to be loaded automatically on the ASUS Eee.
Apple did this on my MAC Book.
The Eee really looks simple enough and all we want ( well my wife) Is skype, E-mail, and the ability to download pictures and send from Camera and Phone Camera.. IS the Eee compatible with Nokia and LG Phones.
Well, I have to start somehow, The Wifi works at my University.
So since I don`t want to load XP, although I will if that makes the WiFI work at Home.
Intelligence is not something I have in abundance when it comes to computers. I even struggled to work out this Forum, searched but found nothing
