newbie wirless laptop
I am a complete newbie trying to get MS out of my life. My new job requires me to learn Linux Gentoo. At home I have successfully installed gentoo onto my sony laptop. Next, I would like to use a wireless connection to get online. From this point on I have no idea where to turn. What information do I need to know about my hardware and how do I get it to work?Any suggestions would be a great help. Essential reading, resources, or links would also be of use. Please assume I am a complete idiot and do not know any linux vocabulary.

You'll need to know what chipset your wireless card uses so you know if it has a native Linux module or you'll need ndiswrapper to make it work. Most likely you'll need ndiswrapper so I'd google that and read their very good documentation.
Of course you'll need the wireless tools installed on your system if you haven't already compiled them with the installation. Also, use this site's search function and you'll find hundreds of threads containing everything you'll need to know about getting wireless working in Linux. |
thanks
thanks for the quick reply....you've given me some things to chew on...
