My background is biology and not experienced at all with anything related to coding or programming, but just beginning. I have recently partitioned my old pc (with windows Vista) and installed CentOS Linux 7. I am trying to learn Linux. For a beginner, I have a problem and a question.
Problem: I cannot get windows anymore on the computer. How do I check if I have overwritten Vista with CentOS?
Question: How do I connect to internet using CentOS?
Thanks. I feel I should have picked something easy to do with Linux for a newbie rather than trying to figure out how to connect to wifi or know if windows is still installed on my computer using Linux command line.
What do you plan to do with your Linix install? Do you simply want a desktop machine? Just curious why you chose Cento's but for a desktop machine for beginners I would hear *Mint or Ubuntu is best.
What should have happened, if done right, Linux will be on a different partition from your windows install. The command you were given was to see if the windows partition is still on the drive. If so, it can be added to grub then you can select and boot to it.
Wifi? Did you install the firmware? That's equivalent to a driver in Linux. Open a terminal and post the output of lspci so we can see what hardware you have.
