newbie - torrent question

ok. Ive been through hell and back looking for some info, but find myself running in circles. Ive used linux before (a bit, not a whole lot) and installed rpm's before. (i am running redhat 8). Now i am trying to run a bittorrent program (doesnt have to be a GUI, but would like it). From what i have found, i need to download python and wxPython, and a bunch of other stuff. When i go to install the Python, its telling me there is other packages that need to be installed first. Does anyone know why? and where I can get these? I cannot install any of the parts needed for Bittorrent, because everytime I do, it is telling me i need something else. thanks.

That would be the case most of the time. It's what is called,
Package Dependencies.

That is A needs B to install, B needs C, and so on. It's actually not any problem and you can easil;y find the packages you are looking for. Most websites list the packages needed to actually install the software that you are downloading from them. So, better keep your eyes open :)

yeah, i noticed all that :) but the thing that gets to me is the fact that when it says it needs more installed, it is a pretty big list. would Ihave to go and search for all of that? im guessing its like a tree.... except i am starting on the very last leaf and i need to work my way up to get to the root. I mean, there was SO much i needed just to run the torrents :( ... but I have some free time next week so ill mess with it.

If it says u need all that, then sorry bud, but you gotta get it all.

It won't be such an uphill task once you get on with it.

Good luck :)

a quick fix would be to use apt4rpm and u could install bt along with it's dependencies at once

I had a similar problem installing bittorenet. I ended up just tracking down all of the dependencies, libraries, etc. in rpm form, and I then I installed the rpms starting with the libraries and working up to python so that I could install bit torrent.

I also use apt-rpm, but for some reason it could not find the python-base in the repository.
