Newbie questions abt Linux

Hey....
I am using mandrake 9.1 KDE.
I was wondering if I could access my windows desktop from linux. As in open a my windows desktop as a new window in linux.

Also I am using amsn but i cant seem to run it without using a console window. Even when i run it using a console window the program shuts down the moment i close my console. Is tehre way out of running amsn by double clicking an icon or by running it through a console and then closing the console without actually closing amsn.

Hoping ill stick to LINUX!

You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command:
urpmi gcc
Install Midnight Commander by commanding:
urpmi mc

Yea i got the same question...how to run console programs like amsn and keep them alive even if the console window is closed?

create an icon on ur desktop,and on its settings,give the required path....
