newbie questions...
I would like to develop some control devices with old CPUs, so I don't have too much ram(32M) neither disk(700M) available.
I only need text based screen - optional network conectivity - no internet. I will need some C development applications compiller-debugger. I have the following questions: Which distribution best fit into these requirements ? Which packages should I install ? Where can I find help for programming I/O and interrupts ? Thanks a lot! Just about any distribution has a C compiler and a text based screen :)
If you are new to linux I would suggest either red hat or Mandrake. I started with red hat and now use gentoo. If you do go down the red hat path, I suggest you install all the development tools. That way you get the compiler etc. As for documentation, sorry, can't help you there. |
mandrake and red hat are fairly resource heavy i think. slackware has been working great on my system and i believe is a leaner distro.
when all else fails, i turn to www.distrowatch.com |
