Newbie Question about Red Hat package manager

Ok this newbie question.

On one of our servers I installed Red Hat AS V4 with the minimal setting. Meaning no GUI. That was awhile ago. But now I want to install the Gnome GUI and a few other stuff on it. I have all the CD's for the RPMs and such.

I have searched for info on how do I install now on the server the nice pretty Red Hat Package Managment Utility. The one with nice window that lets you point and click?

So after I install it. I can install Gnome and others. Is there a command i can issue from command line that will grab the rpm from cd's to install this?

I thought it was something like setup or system-config, but no luck.

Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure but I think if you boot from the first CD, it will detect that you have RED HAT installed and it will give you an option to add packages.

The graphical Add/Remove Programs app is "system-config-packages", and if it's installed you may be able to run it remotely via SSH forwarding.

If yum is supplied with AS 4 (not sure whether it is) you can use the 'groupinstall' option to install the GNOME package group in one pass that way.

Yum isn't supplied with RHEL but it is used by Centos. We run several RHEL and some CentOS servers and we use yum on all of them, and yam to build the repository. Get the yum rpm from Centos - it'll make your life a lot easier when managing software on RHEL systems.
