Newbie needs help with SATA disk install please

Hi I have just bought a western digital 200G SATA drive that I would like to add to my existing system. I am running FC3 with kernel 2.6.12, on an abit x86_k64 board with Via chipsets, with a 120G IDE drive.

What I would like to know is how do I install the SATA drive as a second drive?.

I kind of assumed that all I would need to do is plug it and see something like /dev/hdb, which I could then do the fdisk stuff, but it would seem that the drive is not recongnised. Do I need to make any changes to my kernel config?

Thanks,

Adrian.

Search for something like /dev/sda

Look in your kernel's logs. Are you receiving any error messages?
