Question Newbie needs help

Hello everyone. Very new to Linux (came from Windows).
I just purchased a VPS account and have CentOS Release 5 already in.

Im trying to get a GUI in (GNOME) and used this command initially:

# yum groupinstall "X Window System" "GNOME Desktop Environment"

Then seeing all the errors, i reinstalled using this command line:

# yum --exclude=nautilus-sendto groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"

Still there were errors. Here is a truncated shot:

I hardly use yum, but for rpm, what i usually did is with "--nodep"
since some dependencies are not mandatory~

please observe what your output message is saying when you are trying to install, there are many missing dependencies and if you have good internet setup install missing dependencies or update your system

installation through yum is very then rpm
first use this command
yum search package_name

then use this command
yum install package_name

yum also find out all the dependencies and also download with package

if you could not find the solution then also check the repos files.

repos files present on this path
/etc/yum.repos.d/

i have repos like this

[AAA@localhost yum.repos.d]$ ls
CentOS-Base.repo CentOS-Media.repo kb.repo mirrors-rpmforge rpmforge.repo

you can also search repos on internet
