Newbie needs help
 

Ok heres my problem I installed Debian with kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4 I added AGP support to it and ATI Rage Frame Buffer and ATI video drivers (I assume) and then I configure Xfree86 and I keep getting this error

I tryed running xf86-config and setting it to a stander vga adapter and that didn't help either.

When it tries to start it flashes the screen a few times and then returns to the console with no error messages, I have to go looking for it.

Video card is ATI Rage 128 with 32MByte ram
Debian is Woody version with all of the unstable addons.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had a similar problem with a Debian install. I struggled with it for days with no success. What I did find was that when I reinstalled it, it worked perfectly. Apparently the installation missed a necessary file. Hope this helps.

I have tryed it with my Radeon card and it does the same thing.:(

Please read this whole thing. I am NOT an expert in this area, and hope someone more experienced can help you better, but can add this. When you did your Debian install and reached where you were adding CD's did you run the update one with the others? That was what turned out to be my particular problem. Running the update (last) CD confused things. I remembered it just before I went to sleep. Please see the following sites for better help than I can give.
