Newbie Linux Server Question
I know I could probably search this one out, but I would like to set up my system as a basic server - just to learn how to host a website, creating it using PHP, CGI, etc etc.
Where on earth would I start if I don't even know where to start? Thanks for any suggestions. |

That's not even a question yet mate :}
First decide on a distro Then install apache if it's not installed by default Same with Perl Same with PHP Then read the documentation that comes with the packages, or the online apache documentation Cheers, Tink |

Either you should give him some advice in getting started or just ignore and move on if your not. He asked specific questions for help, you didn't provide any to him. Just a thought. I'm not here to rag on you, just watching out for other members and the advice they recieve. |

problem? Apache is most likely already up and running. You just need to read up on it ;) and modify httpd.conf (try a locate httpd.conf to find out where it lives on your machine) and index.html (try "locate index.html | grep \/www\/" to find out where it lives on your machine)... Cheers, Tink |
