NEWBIE..Install USB Devices / Anti Virus..?

Hi, Im new to Linux and have managed to install Fedora core on another partition with XP on the other...
Everything is fine with DUAL BOOT with XP as default
BUT, How do I install Software on Linux?
I want to add an Anti-Virus (Bit Defender FREE but dunno what to with the 3 files it offers)
and my USB DSL Modem needs to be installed, im not sure if its recognizing any USB devices as when i insert the Modem nothing happens...
Im on AOL BroadBand
BT Voyager 105 Modem (2mb DSL uses username and password)
Also need to install USB memstick for filetransfer from my other laptop on windows (downloaded BitDefender Linux)
Please help, I have laptop in front of me now..

Sorry just this new linux OS is driving me mad,
I dont seem to have any options for creating mount points (not that I know how to)
Any Help would be gratefully accepted

I agree. Sir, your language is unnacceptable for this forum. We are all here in good spirit willing to help each other out.
I have posted questions in here and haven't gotten a reply for 36 hours sometimes. Thats just the way it goes sometimes because just because somebody reads your post, it doesn't mean that they know the answer. Wait for someone to read it that knows the answer.

Having said that, I believe because of your language and attitude, you oughta be blacklisted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats better, ok firstly anti-virus software is only useful for scanning files on their way to a windows machine (if you ran a mail server etc.) Or if you wanted to scan your NTFS/FAT32 partitions. If this is the case, you need to say what type the files are that you downloaded as there are several different methods on a Linux system.

As for the USB stick, what format is it? FAT32 will be best for transferring between the 2 systems. Try plugging it in and doing

try and recognise the drive, if you do you can mount it

will tell you everything you need to know.... as a side note, expect a fair bit of learning and reading :)

Hi I dunno how to execute a 'run' type command?
or create mount points
im quite a whiz with windows but linux has got me stumped?
I think this business with BT Voyager "DSL dial into AOL Broadband" is going to be a big brick wall
by the sounds of that thread that you linked me to...

You're right about the modem, most people (me included) suggest using an inexpensive network card and router/modem running over ethernet.

is the file a .run? try
