Question newbie: how to install sis 630/730 driver on slackware

i have tried to install sis 630/730 driver on linux slackware using xf86config, but i got fatal error when i run "startx".

the procedure says:
# tar -zxvf xsis.tgz
# cp XSiS_SVGA /usr/X11R6/bin/.
# ln -s -f /usr/X11R6/bin/XSiS_SVGA /etc/X11/X
# xf86config (Option, see example in section 4)
# startx

i also tried to use a generic vga, but the resolution is too low and i can't see the whole window.
pls help me!!!

another question: how do i edit xf86config in text editor?
and what program to use? (slackware user)

If the instructions tell you how to edit the XF86Config file then as root
vi XF86Config

or you could use the XF86Setup program

From Slackware's site:
"If you prefer to use a regular X server, you'll need to build an /etc/XF86Config file specific to your system. The easiest way to do this is to run /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86Setup as root. It's a graphical setup program for X. If that does not work, you can always use /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config. The setup program allows you to pick your server, resolutions, color depths, and monitor settings. Be sure to enter the correct information for your system."
