Newbie here, just installed Mandrake 10 but no sound
 

After getting tired of Windows, I installed Mandrake 10.0. Everything seems to work fine except for the sound. I have sound when I play CDs but no other application has sound. None of the games or the mp3's, mp4's or videos have sound. I have a PowerSpec PC using an SiS 7012 soundcard. I checked the sound levels and they are all okay and nothing is muted.

You sure you have the codecs to play mp3/mp4 ? Is it giving some error message?

There'll be a 'Device preference' or something similar in the sound settings. Configure them properly

Yes, I have the codecs. Totem, XMMS and the other apps work fine. No error messages or anything. They appear to function nomally. It will show the mp3 that is playing and count down the time and all normal functions. Just no sound. Odd thing is that the CD player works fine. I put an audio CD into the drive and I can hear it fine. Just the audio on anything else isn't present.

I have acessed alsamixer and everything seems normal. Nothing is muted, volume is up, and it shows the right soundcard.
