Newbie guide to configuring Game Server

Hello!
Can anyone suggest some online resources or ebook for a newbie having normal system admin skills to configure a Game Server in Linux. Or can you point out the major sys admin skills one should have before thinking about running a gaming server?

I guess you should decide which sort of technology you want to use to present games on the web. Will they run on a http server or do you need an application server for that? You will need application servers for all java based applications that dont come as java applets.
Info about application servers you can find at www.apache.org -> tomcat or at sun's site -> j2ee.

So I guess if you provide us with more info you will receive some more help here...
cheers, j

What kind of games are you interested in running?

Something basic that you write yourself in Java for example?

Or are you looking to setup servers for existing games, like a private world of warcraft server for example?

Well, my friend runs an Internet cafe and we were thinking about building a small game spot and make a gmae server and put a couple of machines on client end. First we want to run Counter Strike, Warcraft and Call of duty.
