Newbee - trying to install Linux on Compaq (HP) Presario v6000 Laptop as vista dual b

Newbee - trying to install Ubuntu on Compaq (HP) Presario v6000 Laptop as vista dual boot.

Have reinstalled Vista on new hard disk (c) Have added 50Gb partition for linux. Have bootloader to select Vista or Ubuntu.

Ubuntu appears to load? but Display currupt. mouse pad appears to work ok but unable to navigate since area's showing on top of each other. Tryed getting to a text screen, also unreadable.

Presume video driver is incorrect so searched out a file for Nvidia GeForce 7150M
This turned out to be a 'Run' file but I do not know what to do next? Can I modify the boot up disk to load the video driver ?

Thank you in advance for any assistance. Mark

Mark,

Welcome to LQ

This should get you sort of on the right track. Come back if you have any questions:

http://tuxthink.blogspot.com/2010/08...untu-1004.html

Use this to boot to runlevel 3 (text-only command line mode),

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...90978-p-6.html

then install nvidia drivers.
