newbe trying to compile new kernel

I finally got up the guts to try to make a new kernel for my fedora core 1 install
I downloaded 2.6.8 and gave it a go

I seems to be working ok, but now when I fire up the system monitor that comes with fc1,
The memory and swap history shows I am using 0 bytes of 14k and 0 of 13k swap

Does this mean I have left something important out of the kernel and could anyone point me in the right direction to fix the problem as I would like to know if my swap is working at all!!

Thanks Danny

Did you follow specific instructions on upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6 or did you just compile the new kernel source and install it?

For example: http://www.geocities.com/asimshankar...migrate26.html

I just downloaded the new kernel and gave it a go from scratch..

Having read the web site at that link, I may have to do some more work!!

As for what options I compiled it with, do you mean

make menuconfig
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
then copy the new image to /boot and reconfigure grub to dual boot

or do you want me to post my .config file from menuconfig ??

Thanks for the replys guys...

The make procedure for 2.6 is simpler:

make && make modules_install

No bzimage, etc.
