Newb wants some help with Esata target mode

I'm wanting to setup a device as a iscsi initiator and a esata target

per
http://marc.info/?l=linux-ide&m=127424955114646&w=2

the device I've bought (awaiting delivery) should be able to do it but I'm told I need to rebuild the kernel with some changes (and I don't know how)

Could someone that's more well versed with linux help me with this project?

the device I'll be using is a CUbox
http://www.solid-run.com/cubox

and I've found a source for dealing with the esata crossover (one place that'll make the cable and I'm also going to make a pcb crossover)
