newb SuSEfirewall /etc/resolv.conf question
 

Okay, I THINK this is no big deal, but I want to make sure... I'm not running a server or network, I'm on dial up, and I think my firewall is configured correctly, but this little message in /var/log/boot.msg made me all paranoid. SHOULD there be a nameserver in /etc/resolv. conf?

The nameserver listing probably appears in resolv.conf when you have dialed up and established a connection. It's been such a long time since I used dialup so I honestly don't know, but the bottom line is resolv.conf contains IP addresses for name servers. This is most likely updated automatically if you use DHCP (which you probably do if you're on dialup).

So basically the firewall cannot start because you don't have an active network connection.

I figured it was something like that... You're right, I just checked /etc/resolv.conf again and there was all sorts of stuff concerning my connection, when last night it just said domain localhost.
