Newb Looking for linux Sites.

Hey. I just installed RH9 last night. I am looking for some general linux sites, you know sites that have software to download. Where do you, where do you linux junkies hangout? where do you get your latest Linux news?

Thanks for any help. I am hoping to become one of the regular visitors on this forum helping out new people.

PS. also looking for a good site that has all the BASH commands listed. I am currently reading the RedHat Bible, it has version 6.4 references, but I am hoping to get atleast the basics from it.

Thanks

Lol. :D
There's a lot more, but those should hint to others, and your distro might have added many good links to mozilla by default. :)

Hi Cafrow

2 sites worth checking out are:

www.distrowatch.com

This is probably the best distribution inforamtion site on the internet - it contains details of around 140 Linux distributions.

www.linuxtoday.com

This site is good for the latest news.

Hi Cafrow,
Welcome to the world of Linux. Remember Linux comes lots of good info.
For info on bash, at the prompt type "man bash". If you want info on any
command type "man <command>".

Now, the web site that you need to spend lots of time at is
http://www.tldp.org/
LOTS of great info on, well, everything Linux. :)

good luck,
Michael

Thanks for all the great info, i will start reading up.

Cafrow,

You and I are in the same boat. As of today the ol` Dell Inspiron and I don't quite know what to think. I have wanted to learn linux for a while now. Being very proficient with all versions of windows, I figured "it just can't be that hard... Everyone says Linux is waaay better..." But it is a little more difficult! I'm still trying to figure out how to get my USB hard drive to work... Good luck to you. >=)

Hey, I got my GAIM to work on my linux box (Don;t sound like a big deal to most, but WOOOT for me). If you want, my MSN messanger is cafrow@hotmail.com, I can signup for AIM or Yahoo if you want, contact me, we might be able to help each other out and not ask so many stupid questions.

oh and Cafrow, don't forget this site:
www.google.ca/linux :D
way easier to find stuff using this search engine.
ex: a typical search string on www.google.ca
"msn messanger for linux"
ex: a typical search string on www.google.ca/linux
"msn"
with the first search string, it'll probably ignore the word linux and spam you with a bunch of sites to download msn for windows until you finally hit page 10 with what you were originaly looking for, but using the linux search engine, your first result will more or likely be a site you can download a version of msn for linux....with this site you dont' have to specify "linux" in all your search strings cause all your results are going to be linux based :D this is a very helpful site when searching i thinK !
this is a very basic example, but its more helpful when your searching an error message or something more complex, etc.
