Newb-frendly distros?

I've had some trouble with sata_sil when installing Mandrake, and I couldn't get any workarounds, patches, fixes or other help, so I need a new distro.

Can someone recommend a newb-friendly distro? I'm not really sure what that means, but numorous people have referred to Mandrake as the n00b-friendly distro.

I'm going to use KDE.

Ubuntu
Fedora Core
SuSE

are some of the major newbie-friendly distros
Ubuntu is debain-based, which gives it more clout in my book
