New user on linux has a problem!

I just got SuSe 9.1 pro and I am a first time linux user. (Had to pay for it can you believe! So much for open source... :P)

Anyways, I got everything working, except the most important thing - the internet!

It seems SuSe is recognizing my USB cable as a dial up and is therefore asking me what number to dial and other similar questions....

Is there a quick fix for this, or is it a format and reinstall job?

Thankyou for your time
