New user connections problems ...
 

Hello all-
I am just starting out with Linux so I hope you can help me out. I have a fair amount of computer experience, though all using Windows.

After much effort and reading, here (thank you!) and elsewhere, I got RH 7.2 installed. I have a P3 500 with 386 meg ram, 2 hard drives a 13gig IBM, and a Maxtor 15gig, both on a Promise Ultra66, NIC Netgear FA311. I'm devoting the 15gig to Linux. I connect to the net via a wireless technology, out here in the Iowa boonies that's the only way to get high speeds.

This is where the problem is I can't seem to get my NIC configured correctly. Under Windows when I startup I'm connected there's no problems. But when I boot to Linux I can't get anywhere. I'm not sure where to even start, so I'm going to start with you all!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If it were me, I would first find out if Netgear has a Linux specific driver for that card. Then it's possible you may also have to recompile the kernel for the appropriate ether support.

I dont know weather your card is supported or not. But you can veryfy that by choosing Hardware Browser under System in KDE menu. If the Hardware Broswer list correct network device it means that your Red hat recognizes your device. I have never configured to wireless network but i have done to cable network, i assume they both do it in same way. Go to your windows partition and in Run optin type "winipcfg" and choose proper network device it would display your hostname and ip address and bunch of other stuff. Note down everything and then come back to Redhat and configure that information.
